Hola!

The weather has been beautiful all week, and today was no different. I was placed on the construction team for both weeks, but I wanted to visit VBS.  I was able to join the VBS team today, and was excited to do so. I had made friends with some of the children of El Salto (the waterfall) from the 2005 trip, and I couldn’t wait to see them again. VBS started with singing some Spanish songs “Peace Like a River”, “The Lord’s Army” and a few others that I don’t recognize. Then we do the memory verse for the week, Joshua 1:9. The group splits into three with them rotating between games, crafts, and story time. Today was the last day of VBS at the two sites, and we had an invitation for salvation. 40 children and adults made a decision for Christ, an amazing majority of the children.  Los ninos (the kids) loved the Teddy Bears made for them by the Calvary VBS kids.

morning_verse Back from another day at the beach (not!).  The construction and VBS teams leave camp for the day shortly before 8 am.  We gather in a large circle, and one of the youth shares some verses from God’s word and prays for our day.  Today the verses came from Psalm 121:1,2 “I lift up my eyes to the hills - - where does my help come from?  My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.”  Jarabacoa is surrounded by hills and mountains 3000-4000 feet in elevation, and as we look at them and their beauty, we rejoice with the psalmist that our help comes from the LORD, the maker of all that there is.  What a great God that we serve!

It is Wednesday and officially our third day of construction at Boma. Let’s just say that my stay here in the DR has been a cultural experience, but I have enjoyed it greatly. Before I explain the third day of construction to you, I would like to take a step back and tell you about my full experience since Saturday’s departure.

We had another amazing day here in the Dominican Republic.  Our camp is very nice.  This morning when I woke up I thought I saw a rock sitting on our blinds.  Even though I was a little groggy and not quite thinking straight, that didn’t make any sense.  Then the rock blinked.

Today was our first day of work.  The VBS crew went to Montaña and El-Salto.  It sounded like they had an enjoyable day at both locations.  The construction crew went to Boma.  In the past I have heard so much about the trip to Boma and how adventurous it is.  Well, I experienced that for the first time.  To be honest there are no words to describe that trip.  It was crazy; from crossing a river, to bulls, to extremely steep hills, and bumpy roads.  I love this place!!!!
