Hello Friends and Family,

Today we had the privilege of taking our team to Los Calobazos.

The terrain is breathtaking as those of you who have seen it know.  While I was busy taking advantage of photo ops I realized I really could not capture the true sense of the area with my camera.

The walk to the bottom of the mountain along side sure-footed donkeys or horses is amazing. May I say the return climb to the church where we served dental needs was exhausting and very hot in the noonday sun.  Scrubs are a great cover for sweat or rather they eventually dry in the process of working.

I have been a dental assistant to CEFC-supported missionary, Vanessa and her official dental assistant-in-training, Leonella.  Several of us have been rotating with them the past few days.  Dental needs of indigent patients are served in view of their inability to pay for specialized care.  Most of us have opted for crowns and posts to save teeth.  These people have to have there teeth pulled with no other options for replacement.

Another plight of a people, the Haitians has come to light to us during this trip.  As mentioned on another blog, one family had been turned away 3 times from the local hospital with their very ill 18 month old.  One of my burdens from this trip is for the mistreatment of the Haitians.  We have been given examples of destruction of their housing or refusal of education in many areas.

I want to assure CEFC that Vanessa’s ministry is one of compassion for the Haitians.  An example yesterday was her laboring over a difficult session of pulling several teeth of a Haitian man.  Thankfully he had a friend along to help communicate in his language, Creole.  This morning before we left for the day in Los Calobazos, Vanessa made a house call to check on the man.  She has another goal; that of learning Creole to better serve this precious people.  My point: Vanessa and her ministry are worthy of our prayer and financial support.  She continues to serve with her mobile dental set-up in the surrounding communities.  It is quite amazing what one person can do with the Lord’s help.

Prayer needs: Stamina and health of those who are ‘under the weather’, Nancy, the little Haitian girl who is much improved in Fernando’s clinic, the mother whose baby died a week ago that we visited, Junior and whomever the Lord brings to mind.

“I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me”.  Matt. 25:40

Love to all,

Clare
