What are your plans for next summer?
Have you started making plans for next summer? It’s not too early to start praying if God wants you to be part of Calvary’s DR (Dominican Republic) 07 mission team. Rick Warren in A Purpose Driven Life says that every Christian should go on at least one short term mission trip. “It will enlarge your heart, expand your vision, stretch your faith, deepen your compassion, and fill you with the kind of joy you have never experienced. It could be the turning point in your life” (p. 302).
Is 2007 the time for you? Are you ready for God to challenge and change you?
Calvary’s Dominican Republic mission trips began in 1991 when 45 people, including our senior pastor and his family, traveled to Jarabacoa. |
DR mission trips began in 1991 when 45 people, including our then senior pastor and his family, traveled to Jarabacoa to begin our servant connection with Iglesia Nueva Vida, a small church whose vision is to plant hundreds of churches in the villages of the region. Since that first trip, 172 people — grandparents, parents, teens and preteens — have gone to serve alongside our Dominican brothers and sisters. Many have gone multiple times and all have come back challenged, stretched, and changed by seeing what Christians in a third world country face each day, the beauty of God’s creation, the wonders of God’s timing and protection, the frustrations of living in another culture and language, the sight of God’s family in action and so, so much more. From these participants, 5 Americans and 1 Dominican have gone into full time service either as missionaries or pastors. Many have also participated in other short- term mission trips and some are now training in anticipation of full time Christian service. Mission trips do stretch and change you! Our mission trips have always included many different kinds of service. Latrines have been dug, trees planted, clothing and medical supplies distributed, VBS programs held at multiple locations, new church buildings built in remote villages, additions made to the main church building, outdoor evangelistic meetings held in various barrios…. All in all, being blessed and being a blessing to those around. We expect this trip will be no different with many forms of service being done. DR07 will have a new dimension as we become extra hands and feet for the Mackeys as they begin their ministry there.
Intrigued? The dates for the trip are June 23-July 7, 2007.
If you want more information, you may contact any of the members of the DR07 leadership team: David Henry (trip leader), Jennifer Hennes, Roy MaKosky, Glenna MaKosky, Paul Pedersen, Chet Ross, Roger Warndahl or Kevin Zemanek.
Trip application forms will be out this fall so start praying!
