Nationally Known Speaker Attends Women’s Winter Brunch and Evening Retreat
On January 18, Calvary had the pleasure of welcoming Carole Lewis, nationally known speaker and writer, and the National Director of First Place (the Christcentered health and weight loss program), to Coffee & Friends’ Annual Winter Brunch. Hailing from Houston, Texas, she is a warm, transparent, and humorous communicator.
Following a time of worship and a wonderful brunch, Carole spoke to 130+ women on “A New Year, A New Start.” She emphasized that life is full of new beginnings: new home, new diet, new baby, new marriage, new school, new job. Learning the similarities of each new beginning will lead us from fear to ultimate success. She talked about the ABC’s of beginning again.
A – Accept where you are. “You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth? That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you.” - Galatians 5:7-8
B – Be willing to change. “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” - Galatians 5:1
C – Call on God. “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” - Jeremiah 33:3
In her wonderful southern intonation, she concluded the morning with, “God has all good things planned for us, BUT you gotta show up!”
“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” - Matthew 6:33
At the evening retreat, about 200 women, including a group from Red Wing, gathered in the sanctuary to be entertained by a hilarious skit starring Edna and Edna (Jill Swanson and Terri Gardner) and to hear Carole speak on “Living a Balanced Life.” Carole reminded us that we all desire to live a life of balance. Imbalance unchecked eventually leads to burnout. A balanced life is obtained by a series of small changes we all can make. Carole’s primary focus was on having a quiet time, memorizing Scripture so you can call it up when you are in a crisis, and exercise. She really stressed the importance of abiding in God’s Word.
