The Scarlet Cord: Healing Hearts Thru the Arts

In the Fireside Room

Constant attendance is not necessary.

The primary focus of this ministry is to invite the Holy Spirit to inspire each person to new levels of faith and healing by playing with paint and different mediums all while listening to music or focusing on Scripture. This is a powerful way to experience God.

If you have any questions, would like to be included, or know of anyone who would be interested in being a part of this group, please contact Jean Keefe for more information.

The Scarlet Cord was birthed out of my passion to share the Word of God combined with my love for painting. Last fall, Pastor Todd asked us in a message, “What Kind of Church Will We Be?” I took that message to heart and claimed it. Using Isaiah 61, Pastor Todd challenged us to proclaim God’s Good News to the world, helping one another when we are hurting, setting us free from our bondages, giving us God’s favor, and comforting us in our pain. How beautiful and powerful!

I believe God planted this ministry in my heart and mind a long time ago, but I couldn’t put it into a solid vision until last year. When I see the personal struggles within a person’s life, some of the same struggles I have had and overcome, I want to be a part of reaching out to others and embracing them with compassion. Maybe that is a common goal for many ministries, but this ministry is unique because it involves a time for merging artistic techniques in the growing/ healing process.

Why “The Scarlet Cord”? This comes from the Old Testament story of Rahab. That scarlet cord was a sign that Rahab believed and was a visible symbol to look out for her wellbeing. It meant she would be safe from the attackers. Rahab, the harlot, through her faith in God became Rahab, the Righteous. The Scarlet Cord is to create a safe atmosphere where anyone can come to be encouraged by exploring artistic techniques while being enveloped in God’s Word through Scriptures, music, lyrics, visuals, and testimonies. This is an outreach ministry for healing hurts and lives, adoring the One we’re here to serve, and creating artistic expressions in a safe environment.

This ministry is open to anyone out of high school who isn’t necessarily an artist, but would love to explore becoming artistic. At this time, the materials will be supplied unless the person coming has his or her own painting supplies.

The format for the get together will be a time of worship, a theme for the evening, time for interactive painting, and possibly journaling. We will also, on occasion, explore quotes from Christian writers and artwork from Christian visual artists and see how Scripture has inspired them. The main focus will be inviting the Holy Spirit to inspire each person to new levels of faith and healing by playing with paint and different mediums all while listening to music or focusing on Scripture. This is a powerful way to experience God.

This group will offer a safe place to share, a place to learn, a place to grow, a place for healthy challenges, and a place to take off the masks and get to know others. This is not a place for perfection, nor a place for professional counseling or therapy.

Please pray that God will continue to guide and direct this ministry.
