Hola!

The weather has been beautiful all week, and today was no different. I was placed on the construction team for both weeks, but I wanted to visit VBS.  I was able to join the VBS team today, and was excited to do so. I had made friends with some of the children of El Salto (the waterfall) from the 2005 trip, and I couldn’t wait to see them again. VBS started with singing some Spanish songs “Peace Like a River”, “The Lord’s Army” and a few others that I don’t recognize. Then we do the memory verse for the week, Joshua 1:9. The group splits into three with them rotating between games, crafts, and story time. Today was the last day of VBS at the two sites, and we had an invitation for salvation. 40 children and adults made a decision for Christ, an amazing majority of the children.  Los ninos (the kids) loved the Teddy Bears made for them by the Calvary VBS kids.

This week has been very busy at the construction site in Boma. When I was there two years ago, I helped the team dig footings for the church, and it’s exciting to see how much it has grown. The Dominicans laid block about three feet up, and then decided to put a roof on it. This made things more difficult for us as we were to finish building the walls. In a week’s time we laid the rest of the block, poured bond beams over the windows, created a water runoff system, and made a sidewalk.

I was happy to come back after two years and see familiar faces. The first day when we went to church I sat in a pew and within five minutes, Juan came and sat next to me. I didn’t understand anything he told me, but I was glad to see the little boy in VBS remembered me after a couple of years. We have mostly the same translators as we had last trip, and it was exciting to see them again.

Hasta luego,

Brandon Jacobson
