From June 23 to July 7, 2007 46 teenagers and adults from Calvary ministered in the Dominican Republic during our ninth mission trip to the country. God did some amazing things during our time of service.
VBS
We held Bible clubs in El Salto, Montaña, Los Calabazos and La Joya. There were 180 regular attendees and of those, 100 indicated they had made a commitment to follow Christ. The names have been given to the local church for follow-up. Thanks to our Dominican translators and partners who assisted us in this ministry.
Leadership training
Pastor Dave Genberg led six sessions on discipleship principles at New Life Church in Jarabacoa. Attended by an average of 20 Dominicans and Americans, lessons were also learned in cross-cultural communication – not all concepts are understood in a different language and culture – ask Pastor Dave about the ‘bad salt.’
Clothing
We brought nearly 1½ tons of clothing and supplies to be distributed by New Life Church. They will have a store where items can be purchased for 10 pesos each (approximately 30¢.) This gives the buyer a sense of ownership, rather than just being a recipient of charity.

Mackeys
How special it was to be with Rick, Becky, Ben and Elena. They ministered with us, and we had an opportunity to minister to them when they moved into their home. Team members assisted with the move, painting and other projects needed around the home. We appreciated their wireless internet, allowing us to upload our daily blogs to Calvary’s website.
Construction
We came close to completing the church in Boma, laying block and moving dirt to assist in drainage. At Los Calabazos we installed lighting in the church, and dug a hole for a septic system – in 1 ½ days we excavated (by pick, shovel, bucket and wheelbarrow) nearly 10 tons of clay and rock. At New Life Church in Jarabacoa, work was begun on a kitchen which will be used to serve meals to the poor.
Baptism
On our mid-trip beach day, two team members, Nancy Monsen and Rachel James, were baptized in the ocean by Dave Genberg and myself.
God’s word promises that He “is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine…” (Eph 3:20). We saw that truth demonstrated over and over. Praise God! Thank you for allowing us to represent Calvary and to serve God in the Dominican Republic.
