A new season of ministry

The fall colors visibly remind us that the seasons are changing. As a church family we are engaged in a new season of  ministry that is also characterized by some visible changes. The remodeling of our facility is nearing completion, many parts ofthe project are finished, and the third service has been going strong for a month. Starting this Fall, we are excited to offer Paths of Discipleship and Leadership training. We desire to intentionally and systematically help every believer to grow to maturity. Here are some other things to be aware of this Fall.

Leadership Retreat

On September 21 and 22, our pastoral staff and leadership board held a retreat to clarify our vision and direction for the next two to three years. We sense that God is positioning Calvary for growth. The topics we discussed were vision/direction, discipleship/leadership, missions/outreach, growth, and the capital campaign. It was encouraging to spend time together as a leadership group and we are excited to see how God is at work in our lives and in our church.

Capital Campaign

Our capital campaign begins in November. There have been articles in the last two Couriers announcing that a campaign is planned. As stated above, we sense that God is positioning Calvary for growth and the capital campaign is in response to His leading. Paying for the recent remodeling and retiring our debt will free over a quarter of a million dollars each year that can be used for ministry.

Appreciation of our staff

October is clergy appreciation month. Throughout the year we should be praying for and encouraging our staff. This designated time is another opportunity to send a letter, note or e-mail to our pastors and support staff to let them know that you appreciate them. When the Apostle Paul gave Timothy instructions for church order, he said, "The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching" (I Tim. 5:17). Itis interesting to note that the Bible mentions several groups to whom honor is due, but only one is to receive double honor—those who have been designated by God to teach and lead the church. In Proverbs we read that “Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones” (Proverbs 16:24). We also read, “A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver” (Proverbs 25:11). Take time in October to encourage those who minister to you and serve the Lord faithfullyat Calvary.
