Our first two days...

(Saturday and Sunday, October 13 and14, 2007)

After meeting at the Calvary parking lot at 6:00 a.m. Saturday, our first team

[consisting of Carrie Zemanek, Susanna Stevens, Ellen and Greg Meyer, Jennifer Furst, Peggy and Dave Hammond, Bill McWaters, and (front row) Stephanie Zemanek and Jorge Moreno] left Rochester for the Tenth Annual Great River Missions Trip.  For four of the team members, it is the first time on the trip; the other six members combine for a total of 43 trips to New Orleans.

Time passed quickly on the road trip as we... got acquainted... played Pastor Dave's trivia ("What king's house do we pass on our way to New Orleans?")... discussed various interpretations of the word through  ("Do we drive through New Orleans or just to it?")... stopped to eat dinner in Sikeston, Missouri, at Lambert's Cafe "The Only Home of Throwed Rolls" (where instead of passing breadsticks from a basket, servers actually threw hot rolls across the room for hungry customers to catch)... spent the night in Memphis, Tennessee... drove again Sunday until arriving in New Orleans at 2:00 p.m.  Since we were unable to check into the Yellow House (where we'll be staying for the week) until 4:00, we took a quick look around the French Quarter before settling in.

Our first meeting with the leaders here gave us an overview of what to expect for the coming week.  (For more information go to http://www.efcakatrinaproject.com/ )  We've been introduced to teams from Pennsylvania; California; and Maple Grove, Minnesota, who are also volunteering here for the week.  We know that our day starts with breakfast at 6:30 a.m., a real stretch for at least one of us.  Now that we are here we are anticipating what the Lord has in store for us this week, and we pray He will make us a blessing to all those we meet.

I'm glad that everyone got there safely. I can guess who the one person is that will have a tough time getting up for 6:30 breakfast. Like father, like daughter. smilies/grin.gif

Well, you guys looked great when you left! I'm praying that you will be deeply rested each night and excited every morning to see how God is going to use you. May the Lord shine through you there just like He shines through you here!

Love,
Marion
