Our God is truly amazing. I don’t think I could start off one of these blog entries without first praising our God, which has been the focus of our trip. The number of people on this trip is smaller, but the things we have been accomplishing have not reflected our smaller group of people.
Today our team worked hard in both construction at the Nueva Vida Church, and during VBS in Montana (not the state!). During the afternoon a group of us had the privilege of going out into the surrounding neighborhoods and evangelizing to the local families.
During construction we poured the concrete into the foundation we dug yesterday. Everybody worked very hard to get the job done quickly. Mike Jacobson did an excellent job organizing a group to put a sidewalk in at the main church. One thing that stuck out to me today while we were cutting the rebar was when Mike commented, “We need to do a good job on the back side of the church as well as the front because even though not many people will see the back side, God will.” That reminded me once again of the difference between working hard, and working hard with the purpose of serving the Lord. The sidewalk by the way, was completed very nicely. I left during the afternoon before the rest of the people working on construction finished the project for today.
After lunch I went out with the group mixed of Americanos y Dominicanos to evangelize to the local people. Believe it or not, that part of my day was the most demanding of me emotionally and spiritually, in a good way! I was overtaken by the culture and how willing the people here are to open their homes to literally anybody that walks by and says, “Saludo.” We stopped at a number of homes and had many conversations. The experience was overwhelmingly wonderful, and that is the best way I can explain it as I watched a man whom I could barely understand accept Christ while sitting on his couch helping a little girl cut out paper dolls. It was the smallest of conversations with the biggest impact. It is amazing how taking a small walk with and having a heart for God can so quickly change somebody’s life. That man, whom who’s name will have to be written about later, so you all can pray for him (because I can’t remember…) will spend eternity in heaven with Christ because God decided to use his tools today to speak to this man’s heart. Praise God!!
