Back from another day at the beach (not!). The construction and VBS teams leave camp for the day shortly before 8 am. We gather in a large circle, and one of the youth shares some verses from God’s word and prays for our day. Today the verses came from Psalm 121:1,2 “I lift up my eyes to the hills - - where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Jarabacoa is surrounded by hills and mountains 3000-4000 feet in elevation, and as we look at them and their beauty, we rejoice with the psalmist that our help comes from the LORD, the maker of all that there is. What a great God that we serve!

It is Wednesday and officially our third day of construction at Boma. Let’s just say that my stay here in the DR has been a cultural experience, but I have enjoyed it greatly. Before I explain the third day of construction to you, I would like to take a step back and tell you about my full experience since Saturday’s departure.

June 25, 2007 entry by Katie Warndahl, Our first day of ministry PDF Print E-mail
Today was our first day of work.  The VBS crew went to Montaña and El-Salto.  It sounded like they had an enjoyable day at both locations.  The construction crew went to Boma.  In the past I have heard so much about the trip to Boma and how adventurous it is.  Well, I experienced that for the first time.  To be honest there are no words to describe that trip.  It was crazy; from crossing a river, to bulls, to extremely steep hills, and bumpy roads.  I love this place!!!!

What a beautiful first day this was! We woke up to the sun shining, the rooster’s crowing, and the mopeds zipping by. Attending worship at Nueva Vida Church this morning was a special treat as six members of the church were baptized down at the river. We piled into the front and back of pickups and squeezed “Dominican Style” into the van as the whole church service relocated by the river to watch the ceremony.

June 23, 2007. entry by Roger Warndahl, Everyone made it and so did all of our luggage! PDF Print E-mail
When we finalized the plans for bring 46 people to the DR the single largest concern I had was getting all the people and 138 pieces of luggage from Rochester to the camp in Jarabacoa.  We gave that concern to the Lord and trusted him.  Was he ever faithful which shouldn’t come as a surprise but it is certainly fun to watch how things worked through for the day.  Here is the quick list of how God provided:
