Living Life Without Instructions

I. Who needs the instructions?

II. Jesus is the Teacher.

A. Jesus is God’s promised provision. (Deuteronomy 18:15-19)

B. Jesus said he was the teacher.

C. The Trinity is committed to effectively delivering live-giving information.

1. God the Father sent truth.

2. Jesus faithfully delivered that truth.

3. The Spirit guaranteed the truth would be received and protected.

4. The Apostles preserved this teaching which the church devoted itself to.

III. Application

A. You need to admit you need the instructions.
Put down your pride.

B. Decide who is going to be your teacher.
Is Jesus your teacher?

C. Abide in his teachings that you might live.

D. Obey what God says.

E. Pass it on.



Discussion Questions:

1) Have you ever jumped into putting something together and figured you didn’t need the instructions? If so, how did that go?
Are instructions helpful in general? Why or why not?

2) Have you noticed that the more of life one experiences the more open one is to not having all the answers?
If you could go back and redo one decision you’ve made, which would it be?

3) Have you ever thought about Jesus’ teaching not being His alone but from God the Father?
If God had something to say to you about life and it was important enough to send Jesus to say it, how should you treat that?

4) What role does the Holy Spirit play in the teachings of Jesus?

5) Are you prepared to accept that you need to read God’s instructions for life?
If you are a Christ follower, how much do you rely on Jesus’ teaching for you biggest life decisions?

6) How often do you read Jesus’ teaching and then take active steps of obedience?
Do you have someone in your life who will hold you accountable for your steps of obedience?

7) Are you actively passing on the teachings of Jesus to another?
If not, why not?
When do reasons turn into excuses?

8) Is it okay for a follower of Jesus never to pass on the life they have in Christ to anyone else?
Why or why not?

9) Who is one person to whom you could reach out and say, “Follow me as I follow Christ”?
Would you be willing to call them, start a process of walking through the faith with them?
